Court Stops Gov. Abiodun’s Move to Demolish Gbenga Daniel’s Property

The Ogun State High Court, Sagamu Division, has issued two separate interim injunctions stopping Governor Dapo Abiodun and key state officials from demolishing or interfering with properties linked to former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Justice O.S. Oloyede granted the orders yesterday in suits filed by Daniel, his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, and companies associated with him — Conference Hotel Limited and Blue Chapel Limited. The defendants include Governor Abiodun, Attorney-General Oluwasina Ogungbade, the state Planning and Development Permit Authority, and Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami.

In the first suit, the Daniels sought protection for Asoludero Court, a 1,659-hectare estate in Sagamu GRA, after receiving a quit notice on August 8, 2025, threatening demolition. Officials had pasted contravention, quit, sealing, and demolition notices on the property before later withdrawing some and requesting documents.

Justice Oloyede, citing urgency, barred the state from demolishing or disturbing the couple’s possession pending a motion on notice set for hearing on August 19.

In the second suit, the companies challenged alleged threats to demolish the multi-billion-naira Conference Hotel in Sagamu, arguing its Certificate of Occupancy issued in 2004 remains valid. The court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo as of August 8.

“The defendants are restrained from tampering with the applicants’ possession and enjoyment of the property until the next hearing,” Justice Oloyede ruled.
